In May 1999, a group of enthusiastic and diversified women came together to form the Kansas Chapter of Women in Aviation, International. The local chapter named, Heartland Aviation Women of Kansas (HAWK) was created to promote networking, aviation education and to foster interest in aviation for young people.
HAWK’s membership includes employees from Raytheon Aircraft, Cessna Aircraft, Bombardier Aerospace-Learjet, the Boeing Company, General Electric, the Machinist’s Union, local FBO’s and others. The chapter is open to students, educators, aviation enthusiasts and anyone wanting to participate, and meets the 2nd Tuesday of each month at various locations throughout Wichita, the Air Capital.
In 2002 HAWK awarded 2 scholarship/award opportunities. They included a $500.00 award for educational purposes, and an opportunity to attend the 2002 Annual Women in Aviation Conference held in Nashville, Tennessee.
