The Day the Sky Flashed Twice: What Caused the Mysterious Vela Incident?

On September 22nd 1979, the sensors aboard the U.S. Vela Satellite picked up a distinctive signal somewhere in the vast expanse of the South Atlantic ocean. It was a mysterious “double Flash” of blinding light. Supposedly one one knows its origin today. On or about the same time (classified) a source from the mid west United States reported a similar incident from a land-based vantage point in the vicinity above McConnell AFB.
