Clay Lacy knew that he wanted to be a pilot when he was 12 years old. He had his first flight at that age and started working at an airport trading work time for flying instruction. Lacy will join a group of four celebrated individuals to be inducted into the Kansas Aviation Hall of Fame on Saturday, November 5th at the Hyatt Hotel Grand Ballroom in downtown Wichita, KS.
Joining Lacy are Alvin “Tex” Johnston, famous for rolling a Boeing 707 during a test flight, SR-71 test pilot Kenneth Collins, Sr., and famous WASP pilot and posthumous recipient of the Congressional Gold Medal, Mildred "“Micky"”Axton. In addition, local aviation pioneers Jim and Iva Ballard will receive the Governor’s Aviation Honor Award for their work in developing regional medical flight services.
The Air Capital’s ceremony will take place as an integral part of the Kansas Aviation Museum Gala, an annual event celebrating aviation heritage in Wichita and Kansas starting at 6:00 p.m.
