For nearly 100 years, the men and women of Kansas have been building the nation’s premier regional center for the development and production of aircraft. The book, "Borne On The South Wind" tells the complete story of Kansas aviation, the birthplace of the industry. The state has been host to almost eighty companies manufacturing more than 250,000 aircraft, from unflyable contraptions to today’s high-tech military fighters.
The following chapter outlines from the book, introduces the visionaries in the industry and the great companies they helped create including Boeing, Beech, Cessna, Learjet and others. The book, "Borne On The South Wind: A Century of Kansas Aviation," was written by co-authors Frank Joseph Rowe and Craig Miner. The book published by the Wichita Eagle & Beacon Publishing Company in 1994, is 234 pages with 16 pages of dramatic color photos.
